IRS Plans Fully Digital Tax Submissions for 2024

The agency expects to convert entirely to paperless processing by 2025.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will begin accepting digital tax filings for the 2024 tax season and will fully convert all paper tax returns to digital documents by the 2025 tax season. Speaking at an IRS facility in McLean, Virginia, the treasury secretary added that taxpayers will always have the option to file their taxes by paper even after the IRS’s full digitization.

“For those taxpayers, by filing season 2025, the IRS is committing to digitally process 100 percent of tax and information returns that are submitted by paper – as well as half of all paper correspondence, non-tax forms, and notice responses,” Secretary Yellen said.

This ”paperless processing“ is the result of 10 years of development. The transition could convert up to 125 million mailed paper documents to digital-only documents, substantially reducing the processing time of tax filings and tax returns.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel as he oversees the transition to paperless tax return processing.
  • For Treasury Secretary Yellen to seek God’s guidance as she heads her department.
  • For IRS personnel as they adapt to the digital tax return processing methods.
